Tobacco 21 towards tobacco free Ireland

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland is committed to a tobacco free Ireland. Together with our Faculties and Institutes, we welcome the memo being brought to cabinet by Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly, which will see the legal age to buy tobacco raised from 18 to 21.

Supported by the Royal College of Physicians on Ireland’s Policy Group on Tobacco, Faculty of Paediatrics, Faculty of Public Health, Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Institute of Medicine, and Faculty of Pathology.

Read our Tobacco 21 report here outlining how this has successfully been implemented to reduce smoking prevalence in other countries.

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland has played an instrumental role in progressive public health changes in our society.

Ireland will be the first country in Europe to implement Tobacco 21.
