Statement on humanitarian crisis

Dear Colleagues,

We wish to reiterate our deep concern about the current worsening humanitarian crises and the continuing conflicts around the world that impact on healthcare professionals, hospitals, men, women, and children.

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland acknowledges the contribution of those working in extremely dangerous and challenging conditions to alleviate pain and suffering in conflict zones.

Healthcare workers providing care must be protected as laid out in the Geneva Convention. Children and infants are particularly vulnerable and every effort must be made to protect their health and wellbeing and safeguard them from exploitation.

We direct colleagues to redcross.ie and MSF.ie to make donations to support the humanitarian efforts to alleviate suffering at this time.

The thoughts of everyone at the college are with all those affected by conflict across the world.

Regards

Dr Diarmuid O'Shea
President
