Statement
Dear Colleagues
The thoughts of everyone at the college are with all those affected by conflict across the world, including those affected by recent events in the Middle East. In particular, we are concerned for patients and the doctors, healthcare workers, men, women, children and infants. We acknowledge the work of colleagues who have been working in extremely dangerous and challenging conditions to alleviate pain and suffering. Clinicians providing care to civilians must be protected as laid out in the Geneva Convention. All children and infants in the region are particularly vulnerable and every effort must be made to protect their health and wellbeing and safeguard them from exploitation.
We direct colleagues to redcross.ie and MSF.ie to make donations to support the humanitarian efforts to alleviate suffering at this time.
Let us hope for a peaceful resolution and the swift provision of humanitarian aid.
Regards
Dr Diarmuid O’Shea
President, Royal College of Physicians of Ireland
