Dr Diarmuid O’Shea, President of RCPI said: “I continue to be impressed and inspired by the collective drive for improvement by our Trainees, Members, and Fellows, and by the staff working in the college on our behalf. Together, we are delivering improvements in training and lifelong learning supports, improvements in medical practice and healthcare delivery in association with the Clinical Programmes, and improvements in patient care and outcomes.
“These improvements are central to empowering a healthy nation. This progress can only be delivered by the continued commitment, determination, passion and focus I see every day in healthcare professionals across communities and hospitals, whose single focus is on the patient.”
Among the highlights of the 2023/2024 Annual Report are:
- RCPI’s community of Members and Fellows continues to grow with 1,018 Members, 105 Fellows and 9 Honorary Fellows admitted during the training year.
- There was 24% growth in applications for our training programmes and 16% growth in doctors sitting MRCPI examinations compared with the previous year.
- The college’s advocacy work informed legislative change regarding smoking and tobacco inhaling products, driven by a significant public awareness campaign. Progress was made across all advocacy priorities.
The Annual Report also reflects on the achievements of each of RCPI’s faculties and institutes and includes details of college governance and financial reports.
