RCPI Intern Open Day 2024
The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland is excited to announce the upcoming RCPI Intern Open Day 2024, a key event for current medical interns aspiring to advance their careers through the RCPI Basic Specialist Training (BST) programmes. This full-day event, designed to provide comprehensive insights and guidance, will take place on 5 October 2024 at No. 6 Kildare Street.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore RCPI’s membership exams and engage with senior RCPI training programme directors, trainers, and trainees during a networking reception at the end of the day.
The morning session will be delivered by experienced RCPI Trainers, focusing on best practices for tackling common clinical scenarios. A series of talks will equip interns with essential knowledge and skills for successful internships, including:
- Habits of Highly Effective Interns by Dr Sam Kant
- Approach to Hypotension on the Wards by Dr Paul O'Hara
- Acid, Base, and Electrolytes by Dr Donal Sexton
- The Evaluation of Acute Confusion by Dr Hugh Kearney
- Causes and Management of Hypoxia by Dr Sarah O’Beirne
This will be followed by a series of informative sessions in the afternoon, where attendees will receive expert advice on navigating the application process for various BST programmes. There will be a dedicated Q&A panel to address any specific queries.
Additionally, interns will hear directly from the Deans and Directors of Education & Training representing various RCPI BST training programmes, including General Internal Medicine, General Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and Histopathology. Insights into BST pathways leading to careers in Public Health and Occupational Medicine will also be shared.
