Prof Neil Greenberg talks managing traumatic stress in the workplace at the Annual Smiley Lecture 2023

The Faculty of Occupational Medicine Smiley Lecture took place in person at No. 6 Kildare Street and online on Friday, 17 November 2023. 

The Faculty holds this popular lecture every year in honour of Dr James Smiley, a founding member and past Dean of the Faculty. This year's Smiley Lecture was delivered by Prof Neil Greenberg, Professor of Defence Mental Health at King's College London. His talk, titled "Management of Traumatic Stress in the Workplace", provided valuable insights into a crucial aspect of occupational health.

Professor Neil Greenberg was awarded an honorary fellowship from the Faculty of Occupational Medicine. This prestigious recognition, the highest category of membership, was presented at an evening ceremony at No. 6 Kildare Street, underscoring his exceptional contributions to the field. 


Dr Diarmuid O’Shea, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, Dr Fiona McKevitt, Dr Karla Greenberg, Prof Neil Greenberg, Honorary Fellow, Dr Sheelagh O’Brien, Dean of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, and Dr Ken Addley, Citator. 

The event also showcased the expertise of two Specialist Registrars in Occupational Medicine – Dr Mary Teresa O'Neil and Dr Lena Murphy. Dr O'Neil shared her findings on "Impact of Menopausal Symptoms on Work and Careers: A Cross-sectional Study", while Dr Murphy delivered a presentation on "SARS-CoV-2 testing strategies to limit community transmission, morbidity, mortality and associated costs".
