National Education Day for Doctors in Training 2024

This year's Annual National Education Day, organised by the Trainees’ Committee on 24 May 2024, featured talks from speakers with diverse experiences, presentations by the finalists for the Trainee Awards and a poster walk during the break. 

The day concluded with the Trainee Awards prize ceremony, celebrating various achievements, including the newest award for Trainees in Occupational Medicine – the Arthur Eakins award. 

Keynote speakers delivered insightful presentations, including: 

  • Breaking Down Barriers for LGBTQ+ Young People in Healthcare Settings - Dr Dani Hall, Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant at Children’s Health Ireland 

  • Milestones Towards Strengthening the Irish Health System: Historic Immigration and Training Reforms for IMGs - Dr Liqa Ur Rehman, Consultant Paediatrician and President of the Irish Society of International Doctors 

  • Global Challenges to Education for Women and Girls - Dr Sadhbh Lee, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar and founding member of Irish Doctors for the Environment 

The event celebrated several Trainee Awards’ winners. These awards recognise excellence and Trainee achievements in communication, improvements in patient care and specialist education and training, and research.

Feedback from attendees about the event was positive, highlighting the excellence of the day and the quality of the talks. Attendees found the meeting very informative. They appreciated the variety of relevant topics covered and believed this annual event would be beneficial for Trainees.
