Institute of Medicine celebrates successful completion of specialist training in internal medicine

The Royal College of Physicians opened its doors at No. 6 Kildare Street on Friday, 16 June 2023, to celebrate the success of our newest Trainees to achieve successful completion of higher specialist training in internal medicine.

A Certificate of Successful Completion of Training (CSCST) is awarded on completion of Higher Specialist Training (HST). Completion of a four-to-six-year higher specialist training programme in one of 17 internal specialties is the final step towards becoming a specialist and a huge achievement.

Speaking during the ceremony, Prof Mary Horgan, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, said: “A CSCST in internal medicine is as much a badge of honour as it is a statement of competence that you are now ready to work without a net, as a potential consultant in medicine, ready willing and able to deal with whatever unelected medical on-call will present to you.”

She added, “This certificate is the bedrock for a confident, competent, adaptable physician, ready for the rigors of unselected medicine.”

The College was also thrilled to award International Clinical Fellowship to five of our Doctors, who are now lifelong members of our global community contributing to medical practice in Ireland and in their home countries.
