Core Professional Skills Review

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland is undertaking a review of the Core Professional Skills section of its curricula. This is part of the outcome-based education review of Training.

The aim of the review is to produce an updated Core Professional Skills framework that is reflective of the standards of practice and professionalism established by representatives across all faculties and institutes in RCPI. Developed with broad stakeholder input, the framework will establish attainable and measurable patient focused standards that promote professional development and excellence across specialties.

This section of the curriculum is intended for use by Trainers and Trainees to set goals and discuss progress as Trainees develop in their careers.

The working group is led by Dr Maeve Doyle, Dean of Education and Academic Programmes, alongside representatives from each faculty:

  • Institute of Medicine: Dr Emer Kelly

  • Institute of Obstetrics & Gynaecology: Dr Tasneem Ramhendar

  • Faculty of Paediatrics: Prof Michael O’Neill

  • Faculty of Pathology: Dr Cynthia Heffron

  • Faculty of Public Health Medicine: Dr Niamh Bambury

  • Faculty of Occupational Medicine: Dr Hemal Thakore
