College Renews Training Agreement with Oman Medical Specialty Board

Dr Diarmuid O’Shea, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and Dr Fatma Mohammed Al Ajimi, Executive President of the Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) signed a contract, renewing this important partnership for a further five years. 

The partnership delivers excellence in training to doctors from Oman, enhancing their careers and delivering tangible benefits to communities in Oman through healthcare delivery. Through the agreement, doctors are sponsored to access our global leading International Fellowship Training programme delivered in hospitals across Ireland. These Trainees are highly valued by the Irish Medical system, contributing significantly to the delivery of care in our hospitals.

Dr O’Shea was joined in Muscat, Oman, by a delegation from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, including Audrey Houlihan, CEO, Cliodhna Martin, Global Training and Partnerships and Diana Santos, Business Development Executive.

Dr O’Shea and Ms Houlihan met with Dr Jokha, Assistant Director of the Royal Hospital Oman. The full Royal College of Physicians delegation visited OMSB and met with Dr Fatma bint Mohammed Al Ajmi - Executive President of the Oman Medical Specialty Board, Dr Saif Abdullah Al Yaarubi – Assistant Executive President for International Cooperation. As well as signing a new contract. After the contract signing Dr O’Shea conducted a masterclass focused on geriatric medicine, attracting a significant audience of Omani clinicians. This specialty is gaining increasing interest in the region, reflecting the evolving healthcare landscape.

“We have a chance to discuss the evolving healthcare landscape in Oman, as well as opportunities and challenges for population and patient health, and regional healthcare delivery,” Dr O’Shea said.

“We will continue to learn from each other and support the growth and evolution of clinical and leadership expertise, and healthcare outcomes in Oman.”
