Are your eligible for Recognition of Prior Experience?

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland has established a process for Recognition of Prior Experience (RPE) for international doctors who were working in Ireland prior to 2020 and have several years clinical experience working in the Irish Medical system but whose internship was not previously recognised.

From 1 July to 16 August 2024, those doctors may be eligible to apply for RPE and, if successful, they will be eligible to apply for Higher Specialist Training through the usual competitive process.

Applicants must meet all requirements of BST which includes having Membership of RCPI (MRCPI). Membership from other Colleges will not be accepted. Find out if you are eligible.

Recognition of Prior Training has been in place since June 2023, an assessment process for applications from doctors who have completed a structured training programme overseas for equivalence to Basic Specialist Training (BST). This process will continue to run annually aligned with the HST recruitment cycle. Read the policy here.

Please note: Recognition of Prior Experience will close at 5 pm on 16 August 2024.
