A warm welcome to our newest Fellows
The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) welcomed 35 new Fellows at a special admission ceremony on Wednesday, 18 October 2023. The ceremony was held in No. 6 Kildare Street as part of RCPI’s Annual Symposium – St Luke’s.
22 Fellows were conferred in person at the ceremony and 13 Fellows were conferred in absentia. The new Fellows were welcomed from all four corners of the globe including Australia, Bahrain, India, Ireland, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and USA. They join RCPI’s growing network of 13,000 doctors in over 90 countries.
RCPI’s newest Fellows have each made a significant contribution to medicine and their respective specialties including Cardiology, Clinical Haematology, Endocrinology, Geriatric Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Occupational Medicine, Paediatrics and Rheumatology.
Speaking at the ceremony, in his first official duty as President of RCPI, Dr Diarmuid O'Shea said:
"Congratulations to each of you on becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Fellowship of this college is an honour we take great pride and care in bestowing. It is an internationally recognised benchmark of professional excellence and a real milestone in your career. As a Fellow, you are the College’s future."
During the ceremony, two new Honorary Fellows were also admitted: Prof Helen Boucher, Dean and Professor of Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine, and Dr Edward T.A. Fry, Interventional and General Cardiologist at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis and Immediate-Past President of the American College of Cardiology.
