381 new Trainees begin their journey in Basic Specialist Training

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) is thrilled to welcome 381 new Trainees who will commence the Basic Specialist Training (BST) programmes. Our new Trainees, specialising in General Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, Histopathology, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology, participated in the BST induction days held from 04 to 07 July 2023, at No. 6 Kildare Street.

During their induction day, Trainees met clinical staff and colleagues who will be their support throughout the programme. They were introduced to the curriculum, objectives, key milestones, and expectations of the BST programmes, which they will be undertaking over the next two to three years.

BST is a hospital-based training programme, with participants holding positions as Senior House Officers. This comprehensive training programme equips them with the necessary skills and knowledge to progress to the next stage of their medical careers, Higher Specialist Training (HST).

We are honoured to work with and support our new Trainees, who represent the upcoming generation of doctors and clinical leaders, as they pursue their goal of becoming specialists.

On behalf of everyone at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, we extend our best wishes to all the new Trainees. We are thrilled to have you on board and wish you great success in the next step of your career journey.
