23 doctors admitted to RCPI Faculty of Occupational Medicine
23 doctors were conferred at the Faculty of Occupational Medicine’s admission ceremony on 15 November 2024, held in the historic Grave’s Hall at No. 6 Kildare Street.
“Your faculty is always forward-looking,” said RCPI President Dr Diarmuid O’Shea at the ceremony. “It addresses and identifies future trends and challenges in the field of occupational medicine. This is reflected in its active and relevant events programme which provides the most up-to-date information and expert thinking,” he said.
Dr O’Shea paid tribute to the faculty’s outgoing Dean Sheelagh O’Brien. “My sincere thanks to Dr O’Brien, whose commitment and hard work has shaped the faculty over the past two years, and I’m sure will continue to do so in the years to come.
Welcoming the faculty’s new Dean Dr Alex Reid, Dr O’Shea said: “I am delighted to offer a very warm welcome to Dr Alex Reid, our newly appointed Dean of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine. I wish you the very best in your new role at the college.
During the ceremony, Professor Ira Madan, Occupational Medicine Consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust; former Chief Medical Officer to UK Houses of Parliament, and Dr Richard Heron, Chief Medical Officer at British Petroleum, were conferred with Honorary Fellowship. This honour is the College's highest award, reserved for world leaders in medical science.
Eight doctors were awarded with Licentiateship of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (LFOM). This award is accredited by the Medical Council of Ireland as a key knowledge-based assessment for occupational medicine in Ireland.
Five doctors were awarded with Membership of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (MFOM),an internationally recognised benchmark of excellence, valued by healthcare employers worldwide. Four doctors were awarded Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training (CSCST). This is awarded at the end of the four-year Higher Specialist Training in Occupational Medicine programme.
Four doctors were awarded with Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (FRCPI), the most prestigious category of membership and an international marker of professional excellence.
