Overview

RCPI's International Residency Training Programme (IRTP) has been developed in conjunction with overseas partners to give you the opportunity to complete your core Internal Medicine and Paediatrics training in Ireland.

The IRTP  is a three-year training programme, fully delivered in Ireland, certified by RCPI and recognised for registration purposes by our partners. It has been designed to train doctors in the secondary care and prevention of adult disease and illness.

Training in Internal Medicine is primarily structured around developing skills and expertise within four core areas; General Internal Medicine, Subspecialty Training and Clinical Judgement.

Training in Paediatrics is primarily structured around developing skills and expertise within four core areas; General Paediatrics, Neonatology, Subspecialty Training and Clinical Judgement.

Successful completion of the IRTP with RCPI leads to:

  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI) in General Internal Medicine or Paediatrics
  • A Certificate of Achievement of Residency Training awarded by RCPI in your chosen specialty

“ I was looking for a unique experience and an exciting adventure while still fulfilling excellent educational requirements that would meet high international standards. Ireland was ideal due to its reputation for friendliness and having one of the most welcoming cultures and it is also an extremely beautiful and charming island that’s much closer to home.”

Dr Asmaa Milyani
Trainee, International Residency Training Programme in Paediatrics
