Membership of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine

To be eligible to apply for the MFOM Written exam, you must:

• Have passed the LFOM Written in the last 6 years OR at present taking the LFOM Written concurrently with the MFOM Written OR have obtained the LFOM Qualification. 
• Hold a medical qualification.
• Be registered to practice medicine by the relevant body in your home country. You will need to provide evidence of the same during the application process.
• Have 4 years full-time or equivalent experience following full registration, that is to say two years in general medical training and two years satisfactory experience in occupational medicine.

All applications need to be submitted online. With your first application, you will need to upload:

• a scanned attested copy of your primary medical degree
• a copy of your CV (must be submitted as a single separate document)
• any other relevant documents

Your degree can be attested by:

• An Garda Siochana (Irish police force)
• The issuing university or medical school
• A solicitor/ notary public/ lawyer
• A Commissioner for Oaths
• An Irish or British consulate
• Your embassy or high commissioner

Official translations of any documents will only be accepted if they have been prepared and/or authenticated by:

• The issuing university or medical school
• An Irish or British consulate
• Your embassy or high commissioner

It's important to prepare for MFOM exams and not to underestimate how long it takes to get ready. Having an understanding of how each exam is formatted will help you prepare and develop good answering strategies.

The fee to sit MFOM Written is €600 for Irish students and €680 for overseas students.

The method of payment is credit or debit card, taken at the end of the online application process.

Don't forget: if you're working in Ireland you can claim a refund of the successful examination fee under the HSE Clinical Course and Examination Refund Scheme.

All our written examinations will be delivered by remote invigilation. Instead of travelling to an examination centre and sitting the computer-based examination with other candidates, you do the examination online in a quiet, secure place of your choosing at your own computer, eg at home or at work. You will also need a stable internet connection. Candidates are supervised remotely by invigilators throughout the examination.

A quiet, secure environment means:

• A room to which you have exclusive access (single occupancy - not shared)
• A room that does not have integrated security cameras, or any recording equipment, other than the webcam on your PC or laptop
• You are confident you will not be disturbed during the examination, for example, by traffic, construction work or people
