Research Governance

Research Committee and Templates

Overview

The role of the RCPI Research Committee is to provide oversight and collaboration across the six Institutes and Faculties supporting the strategic direction of research in the College in all areas including:

  • Specialty training evaluation
  • Education programme evaluation
  • Professional competence
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Internal and external research requests
  • Research policies and protocols

The committee will review research applications received, with a focus on research studies performed under the governance of the College, predominantly educational studies.

Application Advice

1. Please read the RCPI Policy on Good Research Practice (PDF, 277KB) and RCPI Policy on Collaborative Research (PDF, 330KB) before completing the application form.

2. Please ensure that the application is signed by the applicant and, if under academic supervision, the supervisor(s) also in the final declaration.

3. A pre-review process will be undertaken and incomplete applications will be returned to applicants.

4. Applicants should ensure that they give themselves a good lead-in time in applying for ethical approval. Once applications are logged for review, applicants should expect to have feedback from the Research Committee within 2 to 4 weeks, with a decision within 6 to 10 weeks.

Additionally, the committee reviews and establish policies, procedures and supports for research, including a process for oversight of and approval for all institutional research to be carried out. This committee reports into the College Executive, which in turn sits under Council.
